Chapter 1

It took a great deal to shock Arnav Raizada, owing to the cynicism, embedded and now comfortably weaved into his nature, courtesy his troubled childhood. He kept his expectations low. However, the photograph that he now held in his hand, caused him to vault upright behind his desk and stare at it in disbelief. He moved closer to the window to avail the best possible light so he could confirm his doubts about the startlingly familiar face staring back at him...a face from his past.

'Khushi Gupta'...he murmured. A slow cautious smirk made its way while his eyes glinted with an unexplained emotion. A pocket venus with midnight black hair and eyes that twinkled with mischief, she was a stunning beauty. He could recall her every contour.. He had felt them, outlined them and marked them numerous times. Khushi was nestled in a distinct corner of his memories, for she had been the only woman ever to betray him and even though it had been three years since the last encounter, the recollection could still sting.

As he observed the staff photograph of his new business acquisition, Sahni Group of Hotels, he couldn't help but wonder at the pace of professional growth of his former mistress.
She had been a sales executive for Banquets, with him, but as she now stood with her 'boss' Shyam Sahni, arms tangled and a low smile playing on her lips, clearly evident that the relationship was more than professional. Her black suit did no justice to what lay underneath. The thought of her soft skin covered in silk and lace and the wonderful slippery feel of her glorious curves, got an instant reaction from his groin. Regrettably, he had never met another Khushi. No one could match his high-voltage libido. It was probably the same hunger that had led her to betray him, while he had been away on long work-related trips. He shrugged at the image of her straddling another man when he had returned home from one such trip, to 'surprise' her.

Arnav had dumped Khushi in the most humiliating manner but that did little to soothe an incredulous bitterness that only increased when he had discovered afterwards that she had been ripping him off.
But THAT had been his biggest mistake, as he thought in hindsight.

When the scandal had come to light, Arnav had the entire fiasco covered up. Erased.. Without a trace.
An audit had been performed, few days post the breakup, and serious discrepancies in the books of the banquet had been found. Money gone missing, falsification of invoices, freelance employees invented to pay receive cheques for work. Only Khushi had access to that paperwork and one of her accomplice had even admitted to the crime.

So, why had he not prosecuted her?

Arnav Raizada had been too proud to parade the reality that he had taken a thief to his bed and had put a thief in a position of trust in his business.

'Was she doing the same with Shyam Sahni as well?' arnav wondered. The mere thought sent his blood boiling as graphic images of Khushi and his new sex-kitten began to play in his mind.

She was back at the game she played best, using her body to reach new career and fortune heights. Arnav felt a rush of adrenaline as he mentally braced himself for the challenge. He re-read the file on The Sahni Group, headed by Shyam Sahni. An eligible 32 year old bachelor.

A perfect match for the gold-digger.

Prologue

It was just another June afternoon. The scorching sun making its presence felt as he drew the curtains. She lay sprawled on the bed after a satiating love-making session, the sheet barely covering her. Long legs inviting him for another trip to the heavens and above.

"Arnav, don't play games with me..", she urged, breathing in slow and deep. Her body relaxed but her eyes giving her away. A mix of anger and frustration reflected in those honey coloured orbs. She hated how her body responded to him. How she let the smell of his aftershave play havoc with her senses. But, she could blame no one but herself. HE hadn't made any commitments or promises of a forever or anything even close to a forever. Yet, she fell and she fell deep. At the end of it all, he would walk away unscathed and she would be torn to shreds.

She had had to accept that all along she had only been Miss All-Right-For-Now on his terms—not a woman he was likely to stay with, just one more in a long line.
